Thousands of teenagers across the county gathered at their schools to open the all-important brown envelope containing their A-Level results this week.

There were triumphs and tears as students hugged friends and family, getting ready to embark on a new adventure.

Mike Appleyard, Buckinghamshire County Council's cabinet member for education and skills, said: "My personal congratulations go to all our A-level students on their results.

"Whether their next step is onwards to university, college or the world of work, they are a credit to Buckinghamshire and reflect the County Council's key priority to provide our young people with the very best start in life.

"I hope in the future we can harness the valuable skills and knowledge they've gained to invest back into our economy locally.

"Information about the overall performance of students will be confirmed later this year, however, early indications suggest that Buckinghamshire has maintained its usual high standards compared to national results which is great news.

"Yesterday's results day was the culmination of years of hard work from the students themselves and of course, teaching staff right across Buckinghamshire's schools.

"It’s also important not to forget how important these achievements are in helping the next generation contribute to the success of both our local and national economies."
