A DEVASTATED living room has been pictured for the first time since a car crashed into it - after workmen pulled a top-of-the-range VW Golf R out of the wreckage.

The ground floor of the home in Morehall Close, Rawcliffe, York, was set on fire when the car ploughed through a side wall and into the home at 1.25am on Sunday.

One man who was sat in the room at the time suffered serious leg injuries and three occupants of the car were taken to hospital with head injuries.

The car was removed from the home this morning after workmen removed brickwork from the wall and slowly prised the car out of the home before loading it onto the back of a truck.

The scene of devastation was clear to see once the vehicle was removed, with bricks spread throughout the ground floor and the charred remains of furniture left behind.

Structural engineers moved into the site on Monday and the car was left in place for more than 48 hours while they surveyed the scene.

The front of the car was damaged heavily in the crash, with the majority of its windows missing and the bonnet displaying clear signs of a ferocious fire that lead to a blaze inside the home.
