Made in Chelsea star Jamie Lang unveiled a plaque in honour of his great uncle in High Wycombe to celebrate the 125th anniversary of McVitie’s digestive biscuits.

The heir to the McVitie’s fortune attended the ceremony at pladis, the biscuit and confectionery company behind the iconic brand, which renamed its baking research and development centre in Hillbottom Road after Lord Hector Laing, Jamie’s great uncle.

Lord Laing, the grandson of Alexander Grant, who first produced the first digestive biscuit at McVitie’s, was the chairman of United Biscuits (now part of pladis) from 1972 to 1990.

Cem Karakas, CEO at pladis, said: “By naming a key business centre after one of the most important people in our company’s history, we’re bringing together our rich heritage and our future.

“Central to our company’s story, is the contribution of our previous employees. Just like us, they worked to create little bites of happiness for people everywhere to enjoy.”
