RUNNERS honoured the life a much-loved friend by raising more than £1,600 in her memory.

Lymm Runners club lost one of their members, Sophie Womack, in March after she battled cancer.

And they tackled the Lymm Festival Trail Races to fundraise for charities Beating Bowel Cancer and The Christie.

The event took place on July 9 and Sophie's husband, Mark, said: "The annual races here in Lymm were one of Sophie’s favourite runs which she competed in or marshalled at every year.

"It’s greatly appreciated that Lymm Runners have donated this year’s profits from the race to two charities which were very close to Sophie’s heart and continue to be close to ours."

The running club meets outside Lymm Leisure Centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm and Lymm Library on Sundays at 8.30am and Wednesdays at 9.15am.
