AFTER counting up thousands of votes we can finally introduce the winners of Mr and Miss Warrington Guardian 2017.

Jordan Hale, 22, and Lisa Mather, 31, proved to be a hit with voters.

But the pair have vowed not to let the new titles go to their heads.

And their friends and families have certainly seen the fun side of the duo’s new found fame.

Lisa, from Grappenhall, joked: “I have been asked to turn on my mum and dad’s Christmas lights.

“My colleagues were very happy that I won and gave me a crown to wear around the office after they found out.”

The former Lymm High student was pushed to enter the contest for a laugh by her childhood friend Taylor but never expected to win.

Lisa, who works as a senior account manager at a marketing agency in Manchester, said: “I have known him since I was three years old and he was bridesmaid at my wedding in June. He was the happiest man alive when he found out I’d won, this is going to be one of the best days of his life.”

She signed up for the contest after returning from a honeymoon trip to the music festival in France where she had first met her husband.

Lisa added: “He just couldn’t believe it when he found out I’d won, I think he was more shocked that I was.”

Jordan also admits to being ‘hounded’ into sending his selfie for the competition but by his nan, Jean. He finally plucked up the courage to enter the contest during a break at work.

And the former Padgate High student said winning has given him an unexpected confidence boost.

Jordan, from Fearnhead, said: “I thought thousands of people would enter but the girls I work with told me to apply. My nan was made up when she saw me in the paper for the competition and she was ringing all her friends from her club to ask them to vote.”

He has now promised to spend some of the £75 Golden Square voucher prize on his proud grandmother to say thank you.

Jordan, who works for an insurance complaints company in Birchwood, said: “I called to tell her I’d won and she couldn’t believe it and my dad was the same.

“My friends are quite sassy, they did kind of make fun of me when they found out and have started calling me ‘Mr Wozza’. I’m going to have to put up with it for a year now.

“But it has really been a laugh and given me confidence. Now my goal is to try modelling. And I’m glad that one day I’ll have these photos to show my kids.”

The worthy winners scooped enough Domino’s vouchers to throw a party for their delighted friends and family, as well as £75 gift cards to spend at Golden Square shopping centre and a professional photo shoot with our Warrington Guardian photographer.
