HAVE your say on how police handle protests and demonstrations by volunteering with the force.

Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner David Keane is inviting residents to become independent observers, watching how officers manage rallies.

He said the feedback will help him hold the police to account.

Mr Keane said: "Volunteers will gain a unique insight into policing by attending any major protests or demonstrations to observe police activity and interaction with demonstrators and the public.

"This is crucial to ensure that the public have a voice in policing and that both the public and I can be confident in the integrity of our police service.

"The independent observers will act as critical friends, providing me with feedback which will directly assist me in holding the chief constable to account and help to maintain and enhance trust and confidence in policing.”

Applicants should be available to work at short notice on occasion and must be confident communicating their views.
