A POPULAR pub is celebrating after marking 20 years in a good beer guidebook.

The Ferry Tavern, which was named as the town’s favourite pub in the Warrington Guardian Food and Drink Awards, has been handed a special award by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

The Station Road pub has featured in the national Good Beer Guide for two decades.

A spokesman for CAMRA praised landlords Andy and Jade Mulholland, who took over the pub from Jade’s parents who had been running it for seven years.

Andy said: “We are delighted to receive the pub of the season award and the special award for 20 years in the Good Beer Guide was a lovely surprise.

“With the Ferry Tavern being in a remote location we strive to entice customers to visit our pub and our main aim and attraction is to keep a great selection of well-kept quality cask ale.”

A total of 12 pubs across the town were listed in the 2018 handbook, which was launched by the north Cheshire branch of CAMRA at the Ferry Tavern on September 26.

Ray Head from the campaign group added: “One year in the guide is an excellent achievement but twenty years is truly outstanding.

“This is a well-deserved award for the Ferry and reflects all the hard work that Andy and Jade have put in to looking after their cask ales.”
