Hoops supporters have been “praised” by the Munich police for their good behaviour, according to Celtic Football Club.

Fans have also been “congratulated” by Bayern Munich for their backing of the team, the club added today.

The statement from CFC comes just a day after the Evening Times reported how Celtic fans were branded “piglets” by the German press for the mess they left on the streets of Munich.

News outlet Rosenheim 24 wrote: “The Scottish fans are mainly known for their unconditional and loud support.

“New is the fact that there are so many ‘piglets’ among them.”

A spokesman for the local police also told the site: “This is an unusual amount of rubbish.”

Brendan Rodgers’ side faced Bayern on matchday three of this season’s UEFA Champions League, and thousands of Celtic supporters travelled to Germany to back the team.

Celtic said in its statement: “The city’s police praised the Celtic fans for their behaviour both before and after the game, while the fans inside Allianz Arena were vocal in their support throughout the 90 minutes despite it being a tough night for the Hoops, who lost the game 3-0.

“Celtic would like to thank our fans for their support of the team, as always, and the club is also looking forward to welcoming Bayern Munich fans to Paradise on October 31.”
