A pregnant woman had to be taken to hospital on Friday following an M40 lorry crash that saw the motorway closed for more than six hours.

The crash - involving a white HGV towing a blue trailer, a white Volkswagen Caddy van, a white Nissan Cabstar and a black Audi Q5 - happened at around 10.40am near junction two for Beaconsfield.

All the vehicles were damaged and the lorry left the carriageway - eventually coming to a stop on the embankment.

A pregnant woman who was in the Audi had to be taken to hospital for assessment, while a man who was also in the Audi suffered an injury but has since been discharged from hospital.

Due to a "significant" diesel spill and barrier damage, the motorway was closed at junction two for more than six hours while repair work took place.

Police are now asking for witnesses to come forward to help their investigation.

Investigating officer PC Richard Martin, of the Joint Operations Unit for Roads Policing based in Amersham, said: "This was a serious collision which resulted in the motorway being closed for a significant period of time.

"I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any dashcam footage to get in touch."
