A pensioner was killed in a crash involving a lorry in Chalfont St Peter this morning. 

The female pedestrian, 71, was pronounced dead at the scene in Market Place following the crash involving a bin lorry at around 10.40am today. 

Emergency services are the scene and road closures are currently in place.

A statement from Chiltern District Council confirmed that the vehicle involved was a Serco waste collection lorry which is on a contract with the council. 

The council spokesman added: "Our thoughts are with the family of the lady involved." 

No arrests have been made and the woman's next of kin have been informed. 

Inspector Scott Long of the Joint Operations Unit for Roads Policing said: “We are at the scene of the collision in which a woman sadly died and an investigation into the circumstances is taking place.

“Road closures are in place and I would ask people to avoid the area.

“If you have any details relating to this, please call the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number on 101.”
