HIGH Wycombe motorists have been left in traffic chaos after the eastbound carriageway of the A40 Oxford Road was closed.
The six-week closure has been put in place so work on the town's new Sainsbury's store, opposite the Eden development, can continue.
But while diversions have been put in place to guide cars around the work, the traffic lights have not been re-phased to deal with the closure. This means motorists are waiting for lights on the closed road to change.
Former Doctor Who star and Bucks Free Press columnist Colin Baker said the work was "absurd".
"I have just been into Wycombe," he said on Tuesday. "They have closed the road but they haven't changed the phasing of the lights. The lights still stay green to the left and there's no left to go.
"It's just absurd."
Buckinghamshire County Council warned drivers of delays during the closure and asked them to "remain patient".

Best option is to avoid Wycombe altogether - road closures or not. The place is a craphole.
