A community-run day centre in Princes Risborough scooped a top award for building a “solid business for continued success”.

The Princes Centre was named the not for profit business of the year at the SME National Business Awards 2017 earlier this month.

The win was extra-special since it took place in the day centre’s five-year anniversary year.

The day centre decided to enter the awards after being crowned regional winners of the community business of the year at the SME Buckinghamshire Business Awards in March this year.

A member of the judging panel reportedly said: “This is a team in a community building a solid business for continued success, their revenue stream is difficult to attain but they have focus and drive.

“Their obvious passion to keep this service going is a massive credit to professional and caring balanced approach.”

Vice-chairman of trustees Matthew Walsh said: “Winning this national award during our five year anniversary is a wonderful recognition for everybody past and present involved in the centre.”

The Princes Centre has been run by the local community since 2012 when a charitable foundation was established.

The team offers day support to older people with dementia or those who feel isolated and in need of friendship, as well as younger people with learning disabilities or who suffer with mental health issues.
