South Bucks residents are being urged to have their say on proposed temporary housing units in Burnham.

South Bucks District Council (SBDC) wants to develop 12 secure temporary one and two bedroom homes at the Bath Road depot for between five and 10 years.

Bosses say the scheme will help the council provide temporary accommodation for individuals and families who are homeless and in “priority need”, especially in the colder winter months.

A planning application will be submitted towards the end of the month, and people are being urged to give their feedback by December 20.

If plans are given the go-ahead, work is expected to start in May 2018 and finish by October 2018.

Cllr Paul Kelly, SBDC’s portfolio holder for healthy communities, said: “I sincerely hope the public will support this proposal.

“As things stand now, the temporary accommodation we are able to provide is expensive and often not of the standard we want.

“Much as we try to avoid moving people out of district, there are times when this is unavoidable.

“So, in their time of greatest need, families are being removed from their support network, children have to relocate to new schools, make new friends and parents may risk losing jobs.

“It’s making a stressful situation even worse for vulnerable people.

“Our proposals aim to provide decent temporary accommodation, give the most needy within our community a chance to get established and make better use of taxpayers’ money.”
