A lorry driver has been arrested in connection with a crash on the M40 this morning which left a man with serious injuries.

The crash happened on the northbound carriageway between junction 1 and 1a – close to the Denham roundabout and exit slip road to the M25 – just before 7am.

A lorry and three cars were involved and the 47-year-old driver of one of the cars, a black Mercedes, was seriously injured.

He has been taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and remains in a serious but stable condition.

The other drivers – who were in a blue Audi and a white Volkswagen Caddy – were uninjured.

The lorry driver, a 49-year-old man from Iver, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while over the prescribed drug limit, and driving while unfit through drink or drugs. He remains in police custody.

Investigating officer PC Stuart Holt, of the Joint Operations Unit for Roads Policing, said: "I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who has any information which could assist our investigation and who has not yet spoken to the police.

"Lane one of three remains closed while officers carry out their investigations and while recovery takes place. We anticipate this should be open soon.
