A 42-year-old woman has been slapped with a £1,200 fine for fly-tipping after lying about owning the vehicle that the rubbish was dumped from.

Mary May Smith’s Isuzu flatbed truck was traced after an unknown person was caught on CCTV getting out of the vehicle dumping a felled tree in a lay-by in Stoke Common Road, Stoke Poges.

Smith, of Foxborough Close, Langley, lied to police saying she had sold the vehicle in question and kept up the story when she was shown evidence to the contrary, but admitted she did own the vehicle when it came to trial.

She was fined £270 and ordered to pay £900 in clean-up and prosecution costs, as well as a £30 victim surcharge.

South Bucks District Council’s cabinet member for environment, Luisa Sullivan, speaking on behalf of the Waste Partnership for Buckinghamshire, said: “This case shows how our deployment of hidden surveillance cameras is catching fly tippers in the act and leading to successful prosecutions.

“Buckinghamshire County Council provides facilities to dispose of waste properly, and this case goes to show would be fly-tippers that illegal dumping is just not worth the risk.”
