Motorists were left in hour-long queues this morning after a box van hit a recovery truck which was towing a lorry.

One lane of the M25 was closed after J16 (M40), with congestion back to J19 M25 (Watford), but has now reopened following a major clean-up operation.

Travel time was around an hour and a half, according to traffic links.

Emergency services had to remain on the scene because debris from the box van was scattered across lane one and a little in lane two following the incident at around 6am.

The lorry, which was being towed by the recovery vehicle involved in the morning motorway smash, was moved to the hard shoulder.

The authorities have not yet confirmed if anyone has been injured in the crash.

The road has now fully reopened and delays have eased.
