Plans to turn a residents’ car park in Marlow into homes have been submitted despite concerns over parking.

Red Kite Housing wants to change the car parking area in Foxes Piece, off Little Marlow Road, into six two-bedroom town houses with integrated parking.

The company says the private development will help subsidise new affordable homes it plans to build in the district over the next few years.

But angry residents have hit out at the firm, saying they have “not been listened to” and that Red Kite is ploughing ahead with the plans despite their concerns about parking.

They are worried the homes will have a negative impact on the already “limited” parking they have and there will continue to be “battles” with non-residents who allegedly leave their cars in residents’ bays to pick their children up from the nearby school or go into town.

One resident, who did not want to be named, said: “I think it goes against the whole of Red Kite community housing, which is a tenant-led initiative.

“They are going against their mandate of what they are supposed to represent.

“Everyone wants out. People are selling their properties because they do not want to look at this monstrosity outside their homes.

“They haven’t listened. If they had listened, they would have come up with a solution about the parking.

“We are second-class citizens. Red Kite don’t care. I am absolutely livid.

“We don’t live in North Korea or Putin’s Russia. That’s not how it works. They are not community housing, they are a dictatorship.”

Red Kite insisted it had done everything to get residents’ views on the issue, including holding a consultation event and giving residents “a number of opportunities” to share their thoughts.

Spokesman Julie Gamble-Kempe said: “We are disappointed to hear that a resident feels he has not been listened to.

“[Following the consultation] we received feedback that mainly focused on parking.

“As a result, we arranged for an independent transport consultant to carry out a car parking survey, the results of which we shared with our residents.

“The survey showed that on each inspection, parking within the development site was only being used up to 43 per cent of the time, which means there is sufficient parking capacity in the immediate area.

“We are still keen to provide as much parking as we can at Foxes Piece, so we have included within our plans provision for more conveniently located spaces to enhance the layout for existing residents.”

The company said it had “refined” the scheme after receiving comments from residents, adding: “We feel we now have plans that address the concerns raised, particularly those surrounding parking.

“We now look forward to working with residents to provide much needed good quality accommodation in Marlow.”

Once the planning application has been validated by Wycombe District Council, people will be able to leave their comments on the proposals.
