Much-loved children’s TV presenters Dick and Dom are set to come to Marlow for World Book Day.

The duo will come to The Ivy Marlow Garden, in the High Street, on March 1 to do an intimate reading and afternoon tea with guests, who organisers promise will be “transported into the world of classic stories and poems”.

The Dick & Dom in da Bungalow stars will read some of their favourite extracts from Children’s Treasury of Milligan – Classic Stories and poems by Spike Milligan.

Organisers said the event is being held to “commend authors and illustrators”, and to encourage children to read books while raising awareness of the “low literacy levels” in the UK.

Speaking about the event, Dick and Dom – full names Richard McCourt and Dominic Wood – said: “The magical atmosphere and vibrancy of The Ivy Marlow Garden perfectly complements the book choice, making it the perfect setting to relay the stories and poems to both children and adults.”

All proceeds will be donated to the National Literary Trust, which the Ivy is working in partnership with for the event.

The funds will be used to help drive awareness and raise literacy levels in the UK. Figures from the National Literacy Trust found that one in eight disadvantaged children do not own any books, reportedly making them up to 15 times less likely to read well than their peers who own books.
