A derelict mushroom farm in Great Missenden could still be demolished and transformed into 10 houses, despite plans being deferred by the council.

Initial plans to bulldoze the farm in Meadow Lane and build 10 homes ranging from two to four bedrooms in its place were discussed by Chiltern District Council's planning committee on Thursday (February 22).

Councillors agreed to defer the proposals until a legal agreement concerning the provision of affordable housing on site is complete.

The outline plans received 12 online letters of support and nine in objection, the majority of which raised concerns about the impact of the development on on South Heath garden centre opposite the site.

Ward member for Ballinger, South Heath and Chartridge, councillor Peter Jones, recommended the developer, H. G. Bird (South Heath) Limited, includes details in the final plans of access to the building site during construction to ensure the garden centre is not affected.

He also reminded the committee the plans are only at their initial stage, and more detailed proposals will need to be put together before a decision is made by the council.

He said: "This is an outline application and a lot of the comments about parking and access and such like will come back when there is a detailed application. This is to determine the principle of development which is actually very popular.

"Those of us who have read the letters that come in, almost none of them are complaining about the principle of the development. Everybody is saying 'watch out for the garden centre'."
