A man was arrested outside a High Wycombe school this afternoon while protesters gathered for a "peaceful" demonstration.

There was a large police presence outside the Highcrest Academy until around 4pm, before protesters dispersed.

Crowds of young people remained outside the school after the protest.

It is not clear what the protest was about, however organisers have ensured police that it will be "peaceful".

A man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and is currently in police custody.

A statement from police posted on the Thames Valley Alert website said: "Our officers are present to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum however following liaison with the organisers, they are expecting the protest to be nothing but peaceful.

"We have planned our response with Highcrest Academy and Buckinghamshire County Council and they are monitoring the situation and ensuring all pupils leave the school grounds safely."

More information as we get it.
