The sentencing of a former Royal British Legion secretary who swindled more than £62,000 of the club’s money over two years has been delayed.
Ian Whitburn, of Peaty Court, Princes Gate, High Wycombe, wrote himself 139 cheques totalling £62,557 between May 2014 and October 2016 while he was secretary of the Flackwell Heath Royal British Legion club, and pleaded guilty last month.
He was due to be sentenced on March 16 but an Aylesbury Crown Court spokesman confirmed this had been changed to March 29, with no reason given for the delay.
Court documents said he “dishonestly abused that position intending thereby to make a gain” while he was “expected to safeguard, or not to act against, the financial interests” of the club.
