Wycombe’s MP has been slammed for “ignoring” his constituents who are fighting the county council’s move to replace Buckinghamshire’s children’s centres.

Lead campaigner Alka Dass says she has sent numerous emails to MP Steve Baker regarding Bucks County Council's decision and invited him to a protest, but has not had a response.

Mr Baker told the Bucks Free Press it is "too early to comment", as the consultation is ongoing, and he will not be supporting “any Labour backed campaigns”.

Mrs Dass said: “I am really disappointed and saddened that my local MP has not even acknowledged numerous emails or replied to my invite.

“I sent an invite as a group to a number of MPs which also includes residents in their areas. Steve was the only one that didn’t reply.

“As a constituent of Steve’s I feel I am being ignored and I am not being provided any help or support.

“That is what your MP is there for. Not once have I been acknowledged by him and I would like to know where he is. Where is the support? I’ve asked for our MP to see if he can request extra funding from Central Government and again no response.”

BCC plans to replace the 35 centres across the county with nine community team bases were given the green light in January, however the move was met with anger from dozens of frustrated parents who regularly use the services.

Mr Baker said: “Conservatives are committed to giving all children and families the best start in life. The plans to reconfigure children’s centres in our county are still under discussion for another three months.

“Until we know what the county council will propose, it is premature to comment but I support he early help ambition of targeting help to families and children who need it, who don’t currently get it.

“In the meantime, I certainly will not be supporting any Labour-backed campaigns seeking to obstruct necessary progress towards better helping those most in need”.
