Big Brother and Strictly Come Dancing stars Jayne Connery and Russell Grant have joined forces with an Alzheimer’s campaigner to fight for better care of people suffering with the condition.

Ms Connery hosted an event at the Crowne Plaza Gerrards Cross to welcome Terry Eccott, a campaigner for awareness of the condition and an ambassador for her charity, Care Campaign for the Vulnerable, after she claims she witnessed “horrific failings” while her mother was a resident in a failing care home.

She campaigned for improved services at Buckingham House, in Gerrards Cross, after she removed her 79-year-old mother Helen from the home, criticising the poor quality of care she received.

And Russell Grant pledged his support to the event, having been a lifelong campaigner for research into Alzheimer's disease after his grandmother sadly passed away from the disease.

Ms Connery said said the event was also a chance to bring together leaders in the care home industry to see how they could work together.

She said: “I've been doing this work now for over five years and still I never fail to feel so humbled and deeply proud to have gained the most incredible loyal supporters to our cause.

“Everyone who was sat around the table works or has a loved one in care.
