An annual sticker-collecting scheme to help prepare Year 6 pupils for their transition to secondary school will return this month.

The community cards scheme will see pupils at Chiltern and South Bucks districts schools collect stickers by getting involved in various challenges and tasks, such as healthy lifestyles, money management and cyber safety.

Run by Chiltern and South Bucks district councils’ community safety team, Thames Valley Police, Wycombe Women’s Aid, R-U SAFE and M for Money Credit Union, the scheme aims to encourage pupils to try out new activities and learn about their community.

Children are then rewarded for their efforts, with the class whose pupils collect the highest average number of stickers treated to a LEGOLAND Windsor trip.

And toy shop The Entertainer is offering a £50 voucher to each school that takes part.

Last year, pupils from Little Chalfont and St Peter's Church of England Primary School, and Chalfont Valley E-ACT Primary Academy, in Burnham, were the winners.

There are 21 schools across the two districts taking part in the scheme, which is now in its fourth year.

Chiltern district Cllr Liz Walsh said: “Moving to secondary school can be an anxious time for pupils, but through the sticker scheme, they will learn lots about their community so they can start secondary school armed with useful new knowledge and skills.”

South Bucks district Cllr Paul Kelly said: “This is a fun competition which is designed to teach pupils important life skills in a light-hearted and enjoyable way.”

The scheme opens on April 16.
