The Environment Agency has reassured concerned park-goers about the safety of a High Wycombe river after dead trout were spotted.

Annabel MacMullen was walking near Pann Mill at The Rye when she saw a dead mature trout in the River Wye – sparking fears that there was an issue with the water.

She also commented how the numerous trout that used to swim by Pann Mill have also not been seen “for weeks”.

In response to the concerns, the Environment Agency said their fisheries and environment management team had investigated and they do not believe there is a pollution problem at the mill.

A spokesman said: “We are keeping an eye on it and if there are more dead fish, discolouration of the river or problems with other wildlife and insects then we will investigate more thoroughly. At the moment we think it is other reasons that caused the death of the trout.”
