This month marks the start of the new season of Midsomer guided walking tours of Thame, following the successful debut last year.

Six trained volunteer tour guides took more than 200 people on Midsomer tours last year, visiting iconic locations from the popular ITV series Midsomer Murders.

Thame is one of the most frequently used locations on the programme, with 21 locations appearing on the show.

Guides take fans of the show to these destinations around the town, using a trail as a basis of their tour.

The paper trial is available to members of the public for free from the Thame Museum, in the High Street, where the tour also begins.

The museum was also used for the interior scene of the Causton Museum in episodes of the popular hit series.

Helen Johns, a volunteer at 21st Century Thame, who organise the Midsomer Tours, along with other activities and initiatives from around the town said: “Local businesses and the council, who fund the free trail, are very supportive of the Midsomer initiative because it does bring a benefit to the community.”

Tourism promoters say the town is an ideal base for enjoyable excursions and picturesque villages in the local area.

Becky Reid, market town coordinator at Thame Town Council, said: "6.5 million people watch Midsomer Murders in the UK and millions more worldwide.

"It’s one of the UK’s biggest TV exports, and when people see it on TV, they want to come and visit the beautiful towns and villages of Midsomer, such as Thame.

"While here, they spend money in our restaurants, pubs, hotels, and shops – which is good for the town and its economy."

The tours take place weekly until the end of October, on Wednesdays at 11am.

They start from inside Thame Museum. Tickets cost £7.50 each and can be bought online at ticketsource.co.uk/thamemidsomer.

Alternatively, simply turn up on the day and pay the guide.
