A village that has hundreds of young residents but no sports facilities or youth clubs to entertain them could soon get a new sports pitch and games wall.

Although the Hughenden Valley has a "thriving" football club, there are "very few" organised activities and no youth club, meaning young people do not have much to do, according to the village residents' society.

There are 1,900 people under the age of 17 living in the Hughenden Parish.

In a bid to tackle the problem, plans have been put forward for a new all-weather community sports facility, which would include a games wall and extra parking at the King George V playing field in Coombe Lane, which lies in the Green Belt and AONB.

The idea has been supported by Fields in Trust, the custodian of the park, as well as local schools and sports teams.

Residents who took part in a survey said the village has suffered from the loss of sporting facilities for the young and old at Magnolia Sports and Social Club and the Uplands Hotel.

The plans say: "The village has absolutely no recreational facilities left. This is particularly damning as the whole purpose of the George V playing fields is 'in the service rendered to youth through providing them an environment and opportunity for open air exercise, for the benefit of individual well-being and the general welfare on the nation'.

"Following lengthy discussions, it was decided the whole village would greatly benefit from an all-weather community sports facility. Current users of Kingsmead tell us that the courts are completely full every day of the week and facilities for junior netball are desperately required."

If the plans are given the green light by Wycombe District Council, it will also feature a games wall with a basketball hoop.
