Plans have emerged to transform a High Wycombe youth centre into a community hub which could be used as a base for emergency services.

Bucks County Council (BCC) has been working with public bodies, including police and the NHS, to explore improving Youthspace in Green Street.

The council has received money from the Local Government Association (LGA) to develop the BCC-owned building, which may be used as a “drop in” space for people to work.

Speaking at a meeting of High Wycombe’s town committee, head of strategic assets and major property projects at BCC, Joe Nethercoat, said: “It is only an idea that we are thinking about to bring to the community.

“We would work around Green Street in terms of creating one of the hubs that people are very keen about, so we improve the community facility, make it a drop in space for people to work.

“Sometimes the local police just want an office they can pop in to and the local community may have a particular need for a sort of space they would be very interested in”.

The plans form part of the LGA’s One Public Estate project which supports councils across the country to deliver property-focused programmes in collaboration with central Government and public sector partners.
