A live music experience for babies and toddlers is coming to Great Missenden with the launch of a new interactive drop-in class.

Founded by two mums from Princes Risborough – Emma Voss and Monica Nelson – Musical Mayhem introduces tots to traditional and original children’s songs, with live musical accompaniment on guitar, melodeon and ukulele.

The sessions feature colourful puppets, props and parachute games with the chance to try different percussion instruments.

Musical Mayhem started with one group in Princes Risborough and has grown over time, with regular term-time classes now running in Chinnor, Watlington, Haddenham and Thame.

Mrs Nelson, a musician and mum-of-three, said: “Our classes are designed to give very young children and their families a fun, stimulating, multi-sensory experience that will inspire a lifelong love of music.

“We create a very relaxed atmosphere by embracing the chaos that comes with little people. We don’t expect the children to sit still on your lap – we encourage them wriggle, dance and express themselves.

“Research has shown that taking babies and young children to an interactive music class can give their brain development and communication skills a huge boost.

“We also know that singing together is good for everyone’s health and can even ease the symptoms of post-natal depression.”

The new Great Missenden class will meet at Oldham Hall, Church Street, at 10.30am every Tuesday. in term time from May 8.

Tickets are £5 per family and this includes 45 minutes of music followed by free tea and coffee for the grown-ups and juice and a snack for the children.
