The major development of a multi-storey car park in Amersham is set to be completed by November – in time for the busy festive period.

The 680-space car park in King George V Road is being extended by another 502 spaces due growing demand from commuters travelling into London.

The construction of the new car park, which started in November last year, has proved controversial, as traders in the area have complained business is suffering due to a lack of parking spaces for customers.

However at a Chiltern District Council meeting on Tuesday evening (May 15), leader Isobel Darby confirmed the car park construction will be finished by the autumn.

Councillor Darby said: “We are investing in our district and looking to the future, aiming to strengthen the existing foundations of a solid business and community centre for the next generations.

“We are extending the Amersham multi-storey car park. Work is underway now and we expect it to be finished, it is on target, we expect it to be finished by November 2018.

“It will be a welcome facility which will help out local businesses in seasonal shopping season coming up to Christmas.

“We do thank everyone for Amersham for bearing with us while we produce this facility. It certainly is a case of no pain no gain but it is going to be absolutely super and it is going to free up a lot more spaces.”
