A pensioner has been charged with sending offensive emails to six MPs - including Beaconsfield MP Dominic Grieve.

David William Hall, from Wolverhampton, is facing a trial on seven counts of improper use of a public electronic communications network, according to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

It is alleged the emails were grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character.

The 72-year-old, of Windsor Gardens, was arrested on January 30 by officers from West Midlands Police in connection with an investigation into messages sent the previous month, the force said.

It is alleged that emails were sent on two separate occasions to the former attorney general, Dominic Grieve, Conservative MP for Beaconsfield.

Hall is also accused of sending emails to Tory MPs Anna Soubry, Nicky Morgan and Heidi Allen, as well as Labour MPs David Lammy and Eleanor Smith.

All the allegations relate to messages sent between December 14 and 19 2017.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "David Hall was arrested on January 30, 2018, in relation to emails sent to six different MPs of an allegedly offensive nature, between the 14th and 19th of December, last year.

"He was charged, and is due to appear in court."

The CPS confirmed Hall was set to appear at Walsall Magistrates' Court for trial in June.
