The new chairman of the county council will support armed forces and air ambulance charities during her year in post.

Councillor Netta Glover, who represents Wing on Bucks County Council (BCC), took over from Cllr Patricia Birchley as chairman at the AGM on Thursday (May 17).

Cllr Glover will be dedicating her year to supporting SSAFA, an armed forces charity based in High Wycombe, and the Thames Valley Air Ambulance.

She is also looking forward to “showcasing the best of Buckinghamshire” and highlight hard work that goes on behind the scenes at BCC.

Cllr Glover said: “I'm most looking forward to getting out and about into our beautiful county and meeting all of the interesting people who are doing such great work in their fields of interest.

“I chose SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity because of the good work they do for those servicemen and women who have returned from overseas missions with often terrible physical and mental scars.

“SSAFA do some amazing work to help both them and their families. I would like to draw the public’s attention to just how much this organisation does to help the people to whom we owe so much.”

Speaking about the Thames Valley Air Ambulance, she added: “One of the most enjoyable roles I have had was as Deputy Cabinet Member for Planning and Environment.

“I would never have thought that dealing with waste would be such a fascinating subject.”

Cllr Glover will be supported by vice-chairman Cllr Brian Roberts.
