Bucks’ transport services has been recognised for its “effective and efficient” management of road and footpath repairs in the county.

Transport for Bucks (TfB) – the county council’s transport arm – has been handed an international certificate of accreditation for its “sustained commitment” to maintaining the county’s highways.

The award, known as the ISO 55001, also recognises efficient delivery of street lighting and traffic signals.

Cabinet member for transport at Bucks County Council, Mark Shaw, presented the certificate to contract director at TfB, Simon Dando, at the council’s AGM meeting on Thursday.

Speaking after the meeting, Cllr Shaw said: “I'm delighted to present this award to TfB. It is a clear indicator of the hard work that goes on behind the scenes to ensure we focus our efforts most effectively when it comes to maintaining our roads and footways.

“Well done to Simon and the whole team. Not only is this a great result for TfB, it will also impact on anyone who lives in or visits Buckinghamshire due to the additional Department of Transport funding we will be able to secure for future maintenance and management programmes on the back of this."

The accreditation is expected to secure further funding for the council for this financial year – as the government allocates a higher percentage of cash to authorities who demonstrate good long term planning.
