High Wycombe’s very own rubbish dump has been named among the best in the country.

The High Heavens household recycling centre, in Clay Lane, is ranked among the top three tips in the nation, after judges were impressed by the layout and facilities provided at the site.

The centre secured the top spot in the Civic Site Amenity category of the Let’s Recycle Awards for Excellence.

Judges hailed clear signage and controls at High Heavens, making it easy for residents to navigate and dispose of 25 different kinds of waste in one place.

There is also “excellent management” of waste at the site to avoid contamination and mixing, ensuring as much of the rubbish is recycle as possible, and staff were praised for efficient team work.

Cabinet member for planning at environment at Bucks County Council, Bill Chapple, said: “It's an outstanding achievement for High Heavens household recycling centre to be judged one of the three best such sites in the country, and my personal congratulations go to the team there who work so hard to make sure that every visitor stays safe and gets the best from the site.

"When asked a few months ago, visitors across all of our household recycling centres gave staff a 99% customer satisfaction rating, showing that staff provide an equally excellent service at all ten of the county's sites."
