Celebrity chef Tom Kerridge’s latest Marlow masterpiece once again proved to be a sparkling success, with thousands joining him at Pub in the Park over the weekend.

Adding together a mix of culinary classics carefully crafted by his famous friends with an array of legendary musical talents to the beautiful setting of Higginson Park, he was always likely to be on to a winner.

The clash of a summer festival with the traditions of the great British pub may not be to everyone’s taste – certainly not all locals were thrilled with the prospect of a return of the popular event – but, for most, it was a match made in heaven.

Rocking up for the Friday night session as newcomers to the rapidly-growing extravaganza, we were wowed by the spectacle before us – the tranquil park had been transformed and certainly offered something for everyone.

The main stage saw chart-topping acts like Jamie Cullum, Razorlight and Will Young perform to packed crowds from Thursday to Sunday, while a dozen mini-restaurants, bars and market stands ensured most guests would leave happy.

During our visit to the new party-town, thousands danced the night away to live music from Spice Girls star Melanie C and 90s pop rock icons Texas.

However, this was not your average festival. Warm beer, greasy burgers and endless queues to a portaloo were nowhere to be seen – this classy event ripped up the rule book and vowed to do better.

Everywhere you turned a critically-acclaimed chef had something to offer, with Tom asking his friends to each bring three dishes to the table (all priced at £5).

There were stands for the organiser’s two favourite Marlow eateries The Hand and Flowers and The Coach, while guests could also pick from the likes of Michel Roux Jr’s The Wigmore, Matt Larcombe’s The Crown at Bray and many more.

On a personal note, Atul Kochhar’s mini-restaurant Sindhu stole the show. The TV chef – who greeted guests on the night – had our taste buds dancing as we sampled his Samosa Chaat, Chicken Tikka Pie and Kheema Paratha.

This was not your standard pub grub, but an exquisite twist on what most would expect from a set of traditional dishes.

Tom Kerridge’s Beef Biltong Chilli with smoked cheddar, puffed rice and lime was another favourite. The flavours blended together perfectly and quality oozed from every mouthful.

This was Michelin-star quality food at a fraction of the price.

Guests were kept busy throughout their stay, with the option to peruse the many exhibitors – fudge, flapjack and chocolate wine stands will live long in the memory – or just sit back and relax with good food, drink and music.

This was the second year Tom Kerridge introduced his Pub in the Park venture to Marlow, with more shows planned for Bath, Tunbridge Wells and Knutsford later this year, with his team appearing to have perfected the recipe for success.
