Pre-school children from a High Wycombe school got to see behind the scenes on a building site in the town last week.

House builder and brownfield developer Inland Homes welcomed pre-school children from Godstowe Preparatory School to its Centre Square development in the heart of High Wycombe, close to Eden Shopping Centre, on Friday.

The children, aged three and four, are studying ‘how people help us’ at the school in Shrubbery Road and visited the site to learn how housebuilders create homes and communities while providing jobs and amenities to people living locally.

Donning their hard hats, they were allowed on to a safe zone of the building site, where they learned about the different skills of builders and how the machinery works.

A digger was moved into the safe zone for the children to sit on, and they were given information packs to take away with them.

Godstowe Preparatory School head of nursery, Hannah Smart, said the children benefitted hugely from the visit.

She said: “Thank you to Inland for providing the opportunity for our young children to learn so much in the real building world.

“It was interesting to hear a child exclaim ‘that builder looks real’ as they looked down from the viewing area. The set up meant that children could have the best possible hands on learning experience with ultimate safety too.

“We do hope that in the future we may be able to bring the children back to see the progress of the work.”

Inland Homes’ CEO Stephen Wicks, added: “I was delighted to see the feedback from the school visit to Lily’s Walk, it was nice to see such positivity towards the development which is set to redefine the town with new homes, green spaces, new shops and work places.”

Centre Square is a development of 239 new one and two bedroom apartments which will be released for sale later in the year.
