Kind-hearted Marlovians are hosting a fun day for youngsters to raise money for a “hidden gem” in the town.

Visitors to the Riley Park Trust Fundraiser on June 9, part of the Love Marlow festival, will be able to enjoy a range of different activities, including bouncy castles, a walk-in balloon experience, assault course, BBQ and around 60 stalls dedicated to second-hand children’s clothing and young people’s charities.

Anna Morant, who is helping to organise the event with fellow resident Adela Hollingsworth and a group of other Marlow ladies, said the aim of the day was to raise money for the Riley Park Trust so it can “survive for future generations to enjoy”.

She said: “Riley Park was left in trust by the benefactor Mr Edward Riley.

“The terms of the deed of trust were that the grounds are left in trust so that the town’s children could play safely off the streets.

“Today the park is used by children using the play equipment, local youth football teams, nearby retirement homes as well as other residents which fit the requirements of the trust.

“Riley Park Trust is a beautiful, tucked away green space and is truly one of Marlow’s hidden gems. As it is held in trust, the park receives no public funding and relies on the generosity of donations and fundraising along with its stakeholders.

“The Riley family’s generosity [from] over 100 years ago has enabled scores of Marlow townspeople to enjoy the area, and we want to support the trust so that it will survive for future generations to enjoy, and to honour the incredible gift Mr Riley made.”

The organisers are also looking for helpers on the day to set up, help during the event and clean up afterwards, for donations for the bottle tombola which can be dropped off to the customer services desk in Waitrose Marlow.

Any cakes, slices, tray bakes or cupcakes can be dropped off to Riley Park from 7.30am on the day.
