Botched road markings left Beaconsfield residents scratching their heads last week, prompting the long running debate on parking in the town to rear its head again.

The Beaconsfield Society posted a photo on Facebook of a set of double yellow lines painted over crumbling tarmac in Lakes Lane.

Transport for Bucks (TfB) has since re-tarmacked and painted the section of road – however frustrated Beaconsfield residents raised questions as to why parking restrictions are being installed in the area in the first place.

Posting in the Facebook group, Jenny Cross said: “Surely residents only parking would make more sense.

“A lot of the smaller cottages up at the top have no garages or parking. Loved growing up in Lakes Lane, but it’s not the place it used to be.”

Daniel Wright added: “I tried to stop them from going ahead with it, but with no luck. Having spoken to them today they have apologised and will speak to the contractors to make it better.

“Let’s hope they will follow through – they look awful.”

BCC said parking restrictions were painted on the road following a parking review of congestion black-spots in the town, in a bid to tackle the “ongoing and increasing” parking issue.

The council admitted the lines should not have be painted prior to the road repairs, and the contracting teams have been notified of their mistake.

Spokesman for TfB, Rosemary Bryant, said: “Inappropriate parking in Beaconsfield has been an ongoing and increasing issue over a number of years.

“Transport for Buckinghamshire (TfB) was commissioned by Beaconsfield Town Council and the Beaconsfield Local Area Forum to carry out a parking review in the town.

“The waiting restrictions have recently been installed in Beaconsfield and we are aware that a section of Lakes Lane was marked with the double yellow lines prior to the patching repair works being carried out.

“The lining sub-contractor has been reminded that they shouldn’t have lined this section prior to the patching. We have now repaired the road surface in this area and re-laid the double yellow lines.”
