A village police station is set to close its doors in August after being out up for sale two years ago.

Thames Valley Police (TVP) is relocating the Hazlemere Neighbourhood Team to Princes Risborough police station and closing the Penn Road station on August 24.

TVP said in a statement: “In times of austerity, Thames Valley Police continues to focus on reducing non staff costs and protecting our people.

“The police station is the base for the Hazlemere neighbourhood team but is not open to the public and does not have a front counter.

“As an underutilised building in need of some maintenance, the police station does not represent a cost-effective use of public money.

“The closure will not affect frontline policing in Hazlemere or negate an opportunity for residents to report a crime.

“The town and surrounding villages will continue to have a visible, dedicated neighbourhood team working towards the priorities of local residents and businesses.”

Chief Inspector Graham Hadley, Deputy Commander for the Wycombe area, said the force remains committed to keeping its communities safe and the move in no way means it is withdrawing from its communities.

He said: “The closure of Hazlemere police station will not change the emergency response as officers will continue to be dispatched from Wycombe.

“Our neighbourhood team, while based at Princes Risborough, will continue to patrol and serve Hazlemere and will continue to keep their priorities at the heart of their work.

“We are empowering our officers and staff to be more mobile in their work with the use of smart phones and laptops and as more of our services move online, members of the public can access information, crime prevention advice and contact details for the neighbourhood team on our website.”

Those with concerns or questions can speak to neighbourhood inspector Pete Wall and sergeant James Benfield for an online community forum at 6.30pm on Tuesday, July 10.
