Plans for new homes on a former High Wycombe reserve site are being drawn up by developers – and are set to include a restaurant, primary school and a food-growing programme.

Gomm Valley was released from the green belt by Wycombe District Council in 2014, along with four other sites – and now developers are putting together plans to build a new community.

Development company Human + Nature, which is headed up by a former director of Greenpeace, Jonathan Smales, is working with landowner Aviva to submit a planning application for the new development.

They say the estate will provide a mix of houses, flats, rental units, shared housing schemes and a housing cooperative.

Mr Smales said: “Gomm Valley is a beautiful and sensitive area that demands a bespoke plan and designs.

“We will build homes and a unique place that honours the setting, restores chalk grassland and other valuable habitats; the homes will be among the greenest the UK has seen.

“Human + Nature and Aviva also intend to provide community facilities, a local food growing programme and restaurant, a new primary school, beautiful streets safe for children to play in, and a network of public rights of way that will provide access into a new ecological park.

“We will build a place – a new type of place - that will stand the test of time and eventually make the whole town proud.”

Gomm Valley and Ashwells was one of five reserve sites along with Abbey Barn South, Abbey Barn North, Terriers Farm and Slate Meadow to be released for development in a controversial move by Wycombe District Council in October 2014.

The land was released in a bid to meet growing housing need in the district, but campaigners were unhappy with the decision.

Ahead of submitting a planning application for Gomm Valley, the developers are hosting a ‘community engagement and design’ event at the site from June 29 to July 1 to give residents a chance to learn more about the development, meet the architects and help shape the plans.

Activities at the event will include design workshops, large-scale plans, drawings and models, as well as a crèche and craft activities for children, while food and refreshments will also be provided.
