Planes will be replaced by exotic cars at a High Wycombe airfield in August – as drivers speed full throttle down the runway in a first-of-its-kind event in the town.

The roar of high performance vehicles will ring out across Booker when the Rotary Club of High Wycombe puts on a unique car event called Sound of Speed at Wycombe Air Park on August 4.

Car enthusiasts will be able to see unique models and powerful engines from more than 70 different rare and unusual vehicles.

The owners will demonstrate their car’s technical perfection by running full throttle down the 740 metre runway, while there will also be static displays of vehicles including an Aston Martin Vantage, TVR Tuscan S 2002, Dodge Viper, BMW I8 electric, BMW M5, BMW M4, BMW M2, a Triumph TR2 that raced Le Mans in 1955, TVR Tuscan and Porsche 911 RS.

The unique event is being organised by the rotary club in a bid to raise funds for Thames Valley Air Ambulance and other Rotary charities in the area.

Louise Rollins, the event organiser, said: “This event is unique, not only because all profits will go to charity, but the elegant and masterful beauties we have lined up are going to blow our audience away.

“We are lucky to have access to a long, straight stretch of runway, massive thanks to Booker Airfield for giving Sound of Speed the pleasure of the space, perfect for high performance cars to run full throttle time and time again.”

Ruth Dunkin, from Thames Valley Air Ambulance, added: “We are delighted to have been chosen by the Rotary Club of High Wycombe as the main beneficiary charity of their Sound of Speed event because everyday anyone in our community could be in urgent need of our service.”

The event will kick off at 2pm and will run until 8pm. Tickets are available at www.soundofspeedfestival.co.uk/tickets.
