The council has re-designated an Iver polling station after a nursery was forced to close during last year’s general election.

Governors at Iver Village Infant School raised concerns over the use of the nursery site at St Leonards Church Hall during the elections – prompting South Bucks District Council (SBDC) launch a review of polling stations.

Residents living in Iver Village and Richings Park will now cast their votes at St Andrew’s United Reformed Church in North Park, which was also identified as a more appropriate and accessible building.

Speaking at a meeting of SBDC’s governance and electoral arrangements committee yesterday (June 26), council officer Mat Bloxham said:

“Following the UK parliamentary election in June last year we received some comments back after that election regarding venues we used for polling stations, one of which is used by the village infant school use in Iver, which was disrupted when we had elections.

“We went and visited the polling stations and one of the ones we were looking at was at St Andrew’s United Reformed Church.”

However vice-chairman of the committee, Councillor Wendy Matthews, raised concerns the new location may not be within walking distance for some residents.

She said: “I am aware of both of those venues and I think St Andrew's is much better located for accessibility, although the issue with St Andrew's is it is on the edge of the community, and possibly not quite so well within walking distance.

“However it doesn’t cause any disruption for the school.”
