I arrange speakers for a service club in Marlow, and back in March this year I thought it would be interesting to try and arrange for an MEP to come and speak to us.
According to his website, one MEP who represents the South East Region, Nirj Deva, has an office in West Drayton, so I assumed he must have some local connection.
However, when I tried to contact this office my e-mails were returned and the phone number was unobtainable. I therefore emailed him in Brussels but again received no reply, and a letter I wrote to him there has also not been answered.
My local MP's office (Stephen Baker) told me that they have no contact with MEPs and were therefore unable to help me contact him.
I recognise that Mr Deva is probably a busy man and may not have time to visit us in Marlow. However, at the very least I would have expected him to keep his contact details up to date and also to respond to queries of this sort.
Whether you’re a Leaver or a Remainer in the ongoing Brexit saga, surely it is not unreasonable to expect your elected representative within the European Parliament to have some accountability to his or her electorate?
