Megan Nannfeldt was 16 when she started saving to buy her own home.

She was fully established in a medical career as a nurse when she achieved her teenage ambition and bought the place last year that’s now her pride and joy.

She doesn’t want to say how old she is but looking at her she can’t be much older than 25, if that.

She bought her home with the assistance of Help to Buy, the scheme that  enables buyers to get a foot on the property ladder with cash-up-front equal to a five per cent deposit and a 75 per cent high street mortgage.

The remaining 20 per cent is available as a loan from the government which is interest-free for five years.

Since the scheme started, more than 158,883 properties have been sold to FTBs.

The initiative has proved particularly attractive to first-time buyers at Bloor Homes’ development in Thame.

So far 35 per cent  of the properties at Thame Meadows have been bought by people under the age of 34.

Regional sales manager Vanessa Macnee says: “I wasn’t surprised that the government figures show the Help to Buy scheme is so popular as so many of our buyers at Thame Meadows have used the incentive to help them buy their home.

“While Help to Buy is fantastic for first-time buyers, we have also seen many families and up-sizers in the area using it as they have realised they can get so much more for their money and it is available on homes up to £600,000.

“The initiative can open the door to fantastic mortgage offers with relatively low monthly repayments, and with interest rates continuing at record lows, many buyers have been able to afford their first home or move up the housing ladder.”

Megan isn’t among the first-time buyers  under the age of 34 at Thame Meadows.

She bought a property on a Bloor development in Warwickshire.

She admits: “I was expecting the process of buying my first property to be quite daunting and stressful but it was totally the opposite. The sales team were so helpful.

“They gave me lots of advice and guidance and the mortgage advisor even completed the Help to Buy paperwork for me.

“The process was totally hassle free and in less than two weeks from my initial viewing I’d had my mortgage approved.”

Back in Oxfordshire there’s  a range of three and five-bedroom homes at Thame Meadows.

Prices for the three-bedroom Staunton design start from £500,000.
