A 51-year-old man has been slapped with a £1,700 fine after fly-tipping near a south Bucks beauty spot.

Naveed Ahmed, from Chalvey, Slough, was seen by a member of the public as he dumped two black plastic bin sacks at the side of the road in Thompkins Lane, Farnham Royal, on October 24 last year.

The member of the public saw a silver car behaving “suspiciously” at around 10pm that day and made a note of the number plate.

The driver then saw the two bin bags left at the side of the road.

When interviewed in November, Ahmed admitted to dumping the sacks containing bricks and sand. He said he was a taxi driver and that he went to Thompkins Lane, near Burnham Beeches, to return a customer’s mobile phone left in the taxi the previous day.

He realised he had the rubbish in his boot and decided to leave it at the side of the road.

Magistrates fined Ahmed £923 and ordered him to pay £773 towards the council’s costs, as well as a victim surcharge of £92, making the total to pay £1,788.

South Bucks District Council’s cabinet member for environment, Luisa Sullivan, speaking on behalf of the Waste Partnership for Buckinghamshire, said: “This case demonstrates the vital part the public play in helping our enforcement officers bring prosecutions against fly tippers.

“I’d ask anyone who sees fly tipping taking place to note details of the vehicle and report the incident to our officers at www.fixmystreet.buckscc.gov.uk.”
