A man has been arrested after police chased two motorcycles which failed to stop in Chesham in the early hours of this morning.

Just before 1am today (August 14) two motorcycles riding together failed to stop for police, resulting in a pursuit supported by the National Police Air Service.

The chase ended with one of the bikes being abandoned in the Waterside area and a ground search conducted by officers and police dogs.

A man was found to have been hiding in the river and was arrested. He received medical treatment for minor bite injuries and is in police detention assisting officers with their investigation.

The motorcycle was found to be stolen from its registered owner in Marlow.

The Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant for Chesham, Roy Evans, said: “We have seen a rise in the anti-social use of motorcycles in the Chesham area, which appears to be linked to wider criminality.

“Local officers are focused in tackling this and the public can support us with any information they have.”
