A busy road in Marlow could get four extra parking spaces.

In a recent parking review, Bucks County Council proposed adding parking spaces to a number of different roads in the town, including the High Street, West Street, The Causeway and Institute Road.

It came after a study carried out by BCC in 2017 showed there was a “need for more parking” within the town centre and a “better turnover” of the existing on-street parking spaces.

BCC told officers at Marlow Town Council (MTC) that the proposed new parking spaces could be implemented at the council’s request and cost.

At a meeting of the planning, environment and transport committee this week, town councillors debated whether to ask for costs and which streets the extra spaces could potentially be added to.

Former mayor Jocelyn Towns said: “I don’t think we should put them in the High Street, it’s already too crowded.”

And Cllr Richard Scott said: “We are going to lose two or three parking spaces for the crossing on The Causeway so we could argue that this is money well spent to get those spaces replaced.”

Town clerk Hilary Martin said BCC had offered the option to MTC as an alternative to the metered parking in the High Street and surrounding roads, after the controversial plans were thrown out when residents and businesses put up a tough fight against them.

Councillors agreed to apply to BCC for costs to implement four extra spaces in West Street.
