THE son of a cancer patient is pleading with a thief to return his mum's dog.
'Cushie', a one-year-old Border Terrier, was stolen from outside the Co-op store in The Parade, Bourne End, at around 10.30am on November 17.
And now the elderly owner's son, Robert Irvine, is asking for the thief to return the dog, which was bought to help his mum through chemotherapy after a major operation last year.
Mr Irvine said: "The dog really helped her through chemotherapy so it is precious to her. Looking after the dog was a big distraction during her treatment.
"Stealing a domestic pet is a poor thing to do because the owner gains an emotional attachment to it."
He said he was not sure whether the pedigree dog was stolen to be sold on or to be used as a working dog.
Police are on the lookout for a white man with short, brown hair who was seen to untie the dog and flee the scene. He was reportedly wearing dark clothes and a yellow reflective jacket at the time of the theft.
Anyone with information on the incident, or knows Cushie's whereabouts, should contact PC John Gibson at High Wycombe police station via the Police Enquiry Centre on 08458 505 505. Alternatively, members of the public may contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
