A NEIGHBOURHOOD group is concerned that Princes Risborough residents may no longer be telling the police about crimes because they think CCTV will be doing the job for them.
Members of Princes Risborough Neighbourhood Action Group (NAG) have been told by police that citizens seem to think there is no need to report incidents any more as they should be picked up on camera.
Robert Thornberry, a member of Princes Risborough NAG, said: "The cameras are there primarily to help protect the town's people and its property but can also be helpful in identifying criminals and solving crime.
"With the cameras in place it's now even more important that incidents are quickly reported to the police. With the aid of a tip-off, officers can request cameras to be specifically directed to record vital evidence while it happens. They can also view recordings after the event but only if they are promptly informed. So despite the cameras, please remain vigilant and ensure that all incidents of crime and anti-social behaviour are reported."
A police community support officer raised the alarm to the NAG when it became clear there had been a downturn in members of the public contacting the police.
Crimes may be reported via the Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505, or anonymously on the crimestoppers charity hotline on 0800 555 111.

There should not be any need for a tip off unless the person watching the monitors has gone to sleep and needs to be woken up!
