Gareth Ainsworth spoke to the national press on Friday afternoon ahead of one of the biggest games of his managerial career.

The game where he will meet Jose Mourinho, the ‘Special One’, a serial winner across Europe and arguably one of the best managers of all time.

Ainsworth, however, was not willing to put a tag on himself when quizzed what ‘one’ he was.

His counterpart in tomorrow night’s fixture, Mourinho, is a master with the media and it’s a skill that Ainsworth is also proving to have.

The media attention around the game tonight is similar to the Play-Off Final and it’s obvious to see how at ease Ainsworth is with the press.

Seemingly all eyes are off the players and on the Wycombe manager something Mourinho is known for expertly doing.

With the mind games already underway, following the ‘norm’ is not something Ainsworth confines himself to whether that be his hair, pitchside outfits, or music ventures.

He said: “The norm is not something for me. I don't want to conform and never have done.

“People are waiting for me to trip up somewhere and think this guy isn’t the guy he says he is. Believe me, I am.

“I'd be more uncomfortable if I cut my hair off, wore the suit or the tracksuit that everyone has and these shoes with white soles that you see all these managers wear on TV.

“If people think they are just managed by somebody who just wanted to be a rock star more fool them.

“I'm an emotional guy. I don't mind admitting that. I think it's a strength. 

“People will say maybe a weakness when you're too emotional. I think it's one of my biggest strengths.”
